Intel’s latest cpu has a nice trick up their sleeve for AMDs 5000 series. It’s the Alder Lake Architecture. It uses technology that currently is in phones. Called big.LITTLE, it tiers out the CPU cores allowing for low power use. The new CPU is also it’s smallest being only 10nm. There are also new features that it supports that are not native to it’s predecessors. DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 support are now available for the CPU.
Key Takeaways:
- Alder Lake CPUs will feature both big and little cores, similar to ARM CPUs found in smartphones.
- Alder Lake CPUs will finally move on from 14nm to 10nm process for the chips in its desktops.
- Intel’s new CPU will support both DDR5 RAM and PCI Express 5.0, and will feature a socket change to LGA 1700.
“The new CPUs are noteworthy not just because they mark a series of firsts for Intel in the desktop space, but also because it presents Intel with a realistic opportunity to claim back the performance crown.”
