O’Reilly has recently released a study regarding the adoption of cloud-based services. The number one criteria is regulation. Many companies are steadily increasing their use of cloud-based services for a host of applications. Besides regulation, cost of adoption is the second barrier to implementing services. Many businesses are surprised at the cost of cloud services. The top providers of these services are Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. In the study by O’Reilly, there is a two thirds and one third split between public and private cloud services. Additionally of these respondents more than half still maintain physical infrastructure.
Key Takeaways:
- Respondents whose organizations use cloud computing rose from 88 percent to 90 percent in the past year.
- The most popular solutions are Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
- The cost of migrating to the cloud has to be compared to the cost of possible outages and interruptions with traditional systems.
“Regulatory requirements (21 percent) and cost (19 percent) are the main challenges among organizations not currently using cloud computing.”
