Computer Security and Account Recovery Help in Milwaukee
Unexpected pop-ups, suspicious account activity, security warnings, unwanted software, or a lost password can make it difficult to know whether your computer and personal information are safe.
I’m John Zettel, the owner and technician at PCRuns. I help Milwaukee-area homeowners and small businesses evaluate Windows security problems, remove unwanted software, restore access when appropriate, and strengthen practical protections against future problems.
You will work directly with me throughout the service. I will explain what I find, what can and cannot be determined, and the available options before beginning paid work.
Milwaukee-area computer service is available by appointment. If you believe money or an online account is actively at risk, contact the relevant bank, card issuer, or account provider immediately.

What Problems Can This Service Address?
Security symptoms do not always prove that a computer is infected. Browser notifications, failing hardware, damaged Windows files, account problems, and legitimate software can sometimes produce similar behavior. The first step is understanding what actually happened.
Pop-Ups and Browser Changes
Persistent advertisements, unfamiliar extensions, redirected searches, changed home pages, or notifications that keep returning.
Suspected Malware
Security alerts, unknown programs, disabled protections, unusual activity, or other signs that unwanted software may be present.
Scam or Remote-Access Incident
A caller or pop-up persuaded someone to install remote-access software, disclose information, send money, or allow control of the computer.
Windows Sign-In Problems
A forgotten local password, damaged user profile, changed sign-in method, or uncertainty about whether the problem involves Windows or a Microsoft account.
Online Account Concerns
Suspicious email, password, or account activity requiring safer access, password changes, recovery steps, and stronger account protection.
Security Setup and Prevention
Help confirming Windows Security, updates, browser settings, backups, account recovery information, and other sensible protections.
What to Expect
Describe What Happened
Tell me what you noticed, when it began, and whether anyone remotely accessed the computer or obtained personal information.
Evaluate the Situation
I will examine the computer and separate likely security problems from account, browser, Windows, or hardware issues.
Review the Options
I will explain the recommended cleanup, recovery, repair, backup, or reinstallation steps and any important limitations.
Approve the Work
You decide whether to proceed after we discuss the expected work, cost, data risks, and actions you may need to take yourself.
Act Quickly When Financial or Personal Information May Be Exposed
Computer cleanup alone cannot reverse a payment, secure a bank account, or guarantee that information already disclosed has not been copied. If a scammer obtained payment details, passwords, identification, or remote access, contact the affected financial institution or account provider from a trusted device.
Change exposed passwords, beginning with the associated email account, and do not reuse the same password elsewhere. When available, enable multifactor authentication and review recent sign-ins and transactions.
Possible Security and Recovery Solutions
Malware and Unwanted-Software Removal
I can examine installed programs, startup items, browsers, security status, and other relevant areas; remove identified unwanted software; apply appropriate updates; and test the computer afterward. No scan can prove that every possible threat has been found.
Password and Access Recovery
The appropriate method depends on whether the problem involves a local Windows account, Microsoft account, browser-stored credential, damaged profile, or another service. Ownership or authorization may need to be established, and some accounts can only be recovered through their provider.
Windows Repair or Reinstallation
When Windows is seriously damaged or continued trust in the existing installation is uncertain, repair or a clean installation may provide a more dependable result than repeated cleanup attempts. Important files and software requirements should be discussed first.
Practical Security Improvements
Depending on the situation, this may include confirming Windows Security and firewall status, installing updates, removing unnecessary remote-access tools, reviewing browser settings, improving passwords, enabling multifactor authentication, and establishing a backup plan.
What Computer Service Cannot Guarantee
- That an infected or compromised computer can always be made trustworthy without reinstalling Windows
- That every possible malicious program, prior action, or copied file can be identified
- That encrypted, deleted, damaged, or stolen data can always be recovered
- That an online provider will restore an account or reverse unauthorized activity
- That future infections, scams, password loss, or account compromise will never occur
I will explain the evidence available and recommend the most practical next step without claiming certainty that the evidence cannot support.
Evaluation, Cost and Turnaround
Free Initial Evaluation
Start by describing the symptoms and any recent event that may be connected. I will evaluate the computer and explain the likely next step. If extensive scanning, recovery, repair, backup, or reinstallation would involve a charge, I will discuss it before proceeding.
Realistic Turnaround
Most service requires at least two days. Extensive scans, account recovery steps, file backup, Windows damage, workload, or replacement-part availability may extend the timeline.
I will provide the most realistic estimate I can after evaluating the situation rather than promising completion before the problem is understood.
30-Day Limited Workmanship Guarantee
PCRuns stands behind the repair work it performs for 30 days after the serviced equipment is returned to the customer. If the same problem returns because of the workmanship performed by PCRuns, I will inspect the equipment and correct the covered workmanship without an additional labor charge.
This limited workmanship guarantee does not cover unrelated or newly developed problems, normal wear, failure of another component, malware or reinfection, customer-made software or hardware changes, physical damage, drops, liquid exposure, electrical damage, misuse, data loss, or problems caused by customer-supplied parts.
Online accounts, security services, third-party software, Windows updates, data recovery, and replacement parts remain subject to their respective providers, developers, manufacturers, or sellers.
Your Privacy and Account Credentials
I use only the access reasonably needed to evaluate the problem and perform the work you approve. Some security or recovery work may require a Windows password, account access, recovery code, or another credential. I will explain why access is needed.
Whenever practical, enter sensitive credentials yourself. Avoid sending passwords through ordinary email, use temporary credentials when appropriate, and change any password that was disclosed to another person or used during a suspected compromise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a pop-up mean my computer has a virus?
Not necessarily. Some pop-ups are deceptive website notifications or browser advertisements rather than an installed infection. The source should be identified before deciding what cleanup is needed.
Can you guarantee that every virus will be removed?
No responsible technician can guarantee detection of every possible threat. If the system cannot be trusted after evaluation and cleanup, backing up appropriate files and reinstalling Windows may be the safer recommendation.
Will security cleanup erase my files?
Routine cleanup is intended to preserve personal files, but damaged storage, malicious encryption, Windows corruption, or a necessary clean installation can place data at risk. Important files and backup options should be discussed before major work.
Can you recover my Microsoft or email password?
Online accounts are controlled by their providers. I can help you use legitimate recovery options, but I cannot bypass a provider’s identity verification or guarantee that it will restore access.
What should I do after allowing a scammer into my computer?
Disconnect the computer from the internet, stop communicating with the scammer, and use a trusted device to contact affected financial institutions and secure important accounts. Tell me what software was installed and what information or payment was provided.
Is Windows Security enough for most home computers?
For many Windows users, the built-in security tools combined with timely updates, careful browsing, unique passwords, multifactor authentication, and dependable backups provide a practical foundation. No security product can replace cautious decisions or eliminate every risk.
