Website Terms and Computer Service Policies
These terms explain the general conditions for using PCRuns.com and receiving computer service from PCRuns. They are intended to set clear expectations about evaluations, authorization, parts, data, payment, workmanship, and equipment left for service.
Last updated: September 11, 2026
If you have a question about how a policy applies to your equipment or requested service, ask before approving the work.
1. About PCRuns
PCRuns is a locally operated computer-service business serving Milwaukee-area homeowners and small businesses by appointment. Customers work directly with John Zettel, the owner and technician.
Information on PCRuns.com is provided for general educational and service-description purposes. Website information does not replace an examination of the actual computer, storage device, account problem, or other equipment.
2. Authorization and Ownership
By submitting equipment for service, you represent that you own it or are authorized by the owner to approve inspection, access, repair, recovery, installation, erasure, or other requested work.
PCRuns may decline work involving uncertain ownership, unauthorized access, organizational security controls, unlawful activity, unsafe equipment, unsupported requests, or circumstances outside the services PCRuns reasonably provides.
You are responsible for identifying any business, school, employer, lease, warranty, management, encryption, or account restriction that may affect your authority to request service.
3. Initial Evaluation and Approval
An initial evaluation is generally offered without charge to help identify the likely problem and practical next step. Some intermittent, complex, or storage-related problems require extended diagnostics. If additional diagnostic work would involve a charge, PCRuns will discuss it before proceeding.
No paid repair, major configuration change, data-erasure operation, or expensive part purchase will be completed without discussing the expected work and cost with you first.
Estimates are based on the information reasonably available at the time. Hidden damage, additional failed components, incorrect model information, unavailable parts, damaged storage, software licensing, or other unexpected conditions may change the recommended work or price. PCRuns will seek further approval before materially expanding paid work.
4. Customer Responsibilities
Please provide accurate contact information, describe the symptoms and recent events, identify important files, and disclose known damage or prior repair attempts. Include the charger or power adapter with a laptop unless PCRuns tells you it is unnecessary.
You are responsible for maintaining copies of important files whenever possible. You are also responsible for valid software licenses, product keys, subscriptions, account access, recovery information, encryption keys, and authorization for software or services you ask PCRuns to install or configure.
Do not send sensitive passwords, verification codes, financial information, or identification through ordinary email unless the need and an appropriate method have been discussed.
5. Data Loss, Backup and Recovery
Computers and storage devices can fail without warning. Diagnostic work, malware cleanup, repair, cloning, updates, password work, operating-system installation, hardware replacement, and ordinary device use can involve a risk of data loss.
PCRuns uses reasonable care and favors non-destructive methods when practical, but no repair, backup, clone, transfer, or recovery attempt can guarantee that every file, program, setting, account, or piece of data will be preserved or recoverable.
A failing drive may contain information that is already damaged or unreadable. When continued operation could worsen a physical failure, PCRuns may recommend stopping work and consulting a specialized data-recovery laboratory.
Unless a specific backup or recovery service is approved, submitting equipment for repair does not mean PCRuns has created a backup of its contents.
6. Privacy, Passwords and Account Access
PCRuns uses only the access reasonably needed to evaluate the problem, perform approved work, transfer requested files, install software or updates, and test the result.
Some service may require a Windows password, temporary credential, recovery code, or account access. PCRuns will explain why access is needed. Whenever practical, you should enter sensitive online credentials yourself and change temporary or exposed passwords after service.
Online accounts are controlled by their providers. PCRuns can assist with legitimate recovery procedures but cannot bypass provider verification, manufacture missing encryption keys, or guarantee that an account will be restored.
7. Parts and Purchasing
PCRuns can research compatible replacement and upgrade parts and explain available choices. Compatibility research is based on model information, installed hardware, manufacturer documentation, seller listings, and other information reasonably available.
For a reasonably priced part, PCRuns may purchase it after discussion and include its cost in the completed service charge. For an expensive part, PCRuns will normally provide one or more purchasing links so that you can make the final purchasing decision.
Parts remain subject to the warranty, return window, availability, and policies of their manufacturer or seller. Used and refurbished parts may have cosmetic wear, limited warranty coverage, or uncertain remaining life.
You may supply your own part, but you remain responsible for its compatibility, condition, completeness, seller relationship, and warranty. Additional labor may be charged when an incorrect or defective customer-supplied part requires extra disassembly, testing, or reassembly, provided that charge is discussed with you.
8. Software, Updates and Third-Party Services
Software, Windows, drivers, online accounts, cloud services, subscriptions, and connected devices remain subject to their respective developers, providers, manufacturers, licenses, support periods, and system requirements.
PCRuns cannot guarantee that older software or hardware will operate with a current version of Windows, that a provider will continue a service, or that a future update will not change behavior.
BIOS and firmware updates involve risk and are not performed automatically merely as routine maintenance. When such an update appears necessary for compatibility, stability, security, or repair, PCRuns will explain the reason before proceeding.
9. Turnaround and Communication
Most repairs require at least two days. Complex diagnostics, data recovery, large transfers, extensive updates, workload, account verification, parts research, seller shipping, and parts availability may extend the timeline.
PCRuns will provide the most realistic estimate reasonably possible after evaluating the equipment but does not guarantee completion before the problem and necessary work are understood.
PCRuns may contact you using the telephone number, text-message number, or email address you provide for estimates, questions, approval, status, completion, payment, and equipment pickup.
10. Payment and Return of Equipment
Payment for approved labor, parts, and other agreed charges is due when the work is completed and before or when the equipment is returned, unless a different arrangement has been agreed upon.
You are responsible for reviewing the completed work and collecting the computer, storage device, charger, accessories, removed parts being returned, and other property associated with the service.
When practical, PCRuns will explain the work performed and demonstrate the result. A successful test at pickup does not guarantee that unrelated hardware, software, online services, or future updates will remain unchanged.
11. 30-Day Limited Workmanship Guarantee
PCRuns stands behind the repair, installation, and configuration work it performs for 30 days after the serviced equipment is returned to the customer. If the same problem returns because of workmanship performed by PCRuns, PCRuns will inspect the equipment and correct the covered workmanship without an additional labor charge.
This limited workmanship guarantee does not cover:
- Unrelated or newly developed problems
- Normal wear or failure of another component
- Manufacturer defects or the uncertain life of used equipment
- Malware, reinfection, scams, or compromised online accounts
- Windows, driver, software, cloud-service, or provider changes
- Customer-made software or hardware changes
- Overclocking or operation outside manufacturer specifications
- Drops, pressure, liquid exposure, electrical damage, misuse, or other physical damage
- Data loss or unsuccessful data recovery
- Failures caused by customer-supplied parts
Replacement parts are covered only by any warranty offered by their manufacturer or seller. The workmanship guarantee does not promise a refund, a replacement computer, recovery of lost data, or correction of a problem outside the approved work.
12. Unclaimed Equipment — 90-Day Holding Period
Please collect equipment promptly after PCRuns informs you that service is complete, declined, discontinued, or awaiting pickup.
PCRuns will use the contact information you provided to make reasonable attempts to notify you. You are responsible for keeping that information current and responding to requests concerning approval, payment, and pickup.
Equipment that remains uncollected for 90 days after the first documented notice that it is ready for pickup—or that no further work will be performed—will be considered unclaimed for purposes of PCRuns’s internal handling procedure.
Reaching 90 days does not automatically transfer legal ownership to PCRuns. After the holding period and documented contact attempts, PCRuns may pursue storage, return, recycling, disposal, lien, or other remedies only as permitted by applicable Wisconsin law. Any legally required notice or procedure will take precedence over this general policy.
Because unclaimed equipment may contain personal information, PCRuns will consider the storage device and data risks before choosing any permitted disposition. Customers needing additional pickup time should contact PCRuns before the holding period expires.
13. Recycling and Data Erasure
Contact PCRuns before bringing equipment for recycling. PCRuns does not accept every type or quantity of electronic device and does not promise pickup, certified destruction, environmental-compliance documentation, or acceptance by a third-party recycler.
Deleting files, resetting Windows, logical erasure, removing a storage device, and physically destroying media are different actions. The appropriate method depends on the device, its condition, the sensitivity of the data, and any legal or organizational requirements.
Customers requiring formal chain of custody, witnessed destruction, regulatory documentation, or certified recycling should use a qualified provider offering those services.
14. Limits of Service
PCRuns will use reasonable care in performing approved work. However, computer equipment, storage devices, software, malware, online accounts, and third-party services can be unpredictable. Results that depend on failed hardware, damaged data, missing credentials, encryption, provider decisions, unsupported software, unavailable parts, or events outside PCRuns’s control cannot be guaranteed.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, PCRuns is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from unavailable equipment, lost profits, lost business, lost data, or interruption of third-party services. Nothing in these terms excludes obligations or rights that cannot legally be excluded.
15. Website Content and External Links
PCRuns.com may contain tutorials, opinions, product information, and links to third-party websites. Technology changes, and information that was accurate when published may later become outdated. Verify important instructions, compatibility, prices, warranties, security guidance, and legal requirements before relying on them.
External links are provided for convenience and do not place third-party websites under PCRuns’s control. Their content, availability, security, sales terms, privacy practices, and products remain their responsibility.
You may link to publicly available pages on PCRuns.com in an ordinary and lawful manner. Site text, photographs, branding, and original materials remain protected by applicable copyright and other laws and may not be republished as someone else’s work.
16. Changes to These Terms
PCRuns may revise these terms as services, technology, or legal requirements change. The updated date at the top of the page identifies the current published version. Changes apply prospectively unless applicable law requires otherwise.
17. Wisconsin Law
These terms are governed by applicable federal law and the laws of the State of Wisconsin. Any provision that is unenforceable will be limited or separated to the minimum extent necessary while the remaining provisions continue to apply.
